The remake of George A. Romero film “The Crazies” is now in theatres and the buzz about the movie has already started. The actor Timothy Olyphant of “Deadwood” and “Live Free or Die Hard” is one of the main characters, David Dutton. The other main character is Radha Mitchell, who plays the wife(Judy) of David Dutton. The film is a typical zombie movie, but being typical does not necessarily mean unsuccessful. The inhabitants of a small town get infected by a disease which bursts out of some military facility and through the local water distribution. Infected people turn into merciless and blank killers. The people who live closest to the water supply station get infected first and the disease start spreading. Our main characters are examined by military doctors and the pregnant wife Judy Dutton is considered infected even though she is not: the symptoms are the result of her pregnancy rather than the disease. Nevertheless they are imprisoned and they escape. The escape is very dangerous since they military hunts people down and naturally the “Crazies” are everywhere killing and damaging. The music is very powerful in the film and it adds to the tension and thrill, and the ending which is open to interpretation keeps the audience in wonder. Going back to normal life after the lights are turned on is a bit more difficult than any regular horror movie, because the viewer keeps asking what might have happened after the end. Timothy Olyphant is charming as the devoted sheriff and the husband, Radha Mitchell does fine as the pregnant wife. The supporting character Becca (Danielle Panabaker) is lovely and it is curious what happens to her. Overall, this is a good movie with strong action, tension and a bit of drama. It will be well worth spent one and a half hours even though you are not the biggest fan of the “people-turning-zombie” movies.
