If you are a bit, or a lot fed up with the cheesy Hollywood movies you will surely want to check out the Australian thriller Coffin Rock from 2009. The story is quite simple yet it is presents a nice basis for the twist in the plot. A young couple has been trying to have a baby, but without luck. One day in a moment of desperation the woman sleeps with a stranger and gets pregnant. Then she has to fight for her right of happiness with the psychotic stranger trying to prove his paternity.
Do not expect to get particularly frightened or terrified although there are some quite thrilling moments in Coffin Rock. The surprise are not many either, but this does not make the film lose its entertaining and dramatic nature. Most viewers who love the thriller genre may find the plot to be way too conventional, but the excellent acting really makes up for it. It is a bit annoying to be able to predict all the twists and turns, but again this does not make it less enjoyable. One cannot help, but to be sympathetic with the young woman and her struggle. Still, all characters have their sort of dark side, which makes them more realistic and allows for the viewer to connect more easily with them. The villain is also has an interestingly twisted personality although he slightly lacks that charm of some of the most famous movie psychos.
Generally, there is nothing special that sets Coffin Rock apart from the standard thrillers except for the acting. It is worth watching for pastime and given the contemporary setting and the attention catching topic, you can be certain that you will not have this hour and a half of intense psychological thriller wasted.
